JOVEL VALLEY BASIN
The multi-ethnic Cuenca del Valle de Jovel (CVJ) is a tributary basin of the Grijalva River, it has an area of 28,564 hectares and covers part of the municipalities of San Cristóbal de las Casas (SCLC), San Juan Chamula, Huixtán, Tenejapa and Zinacantán , where indigenous Tzotzil people, mestizos and from many other countries live, distributed in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chamula and around 100 rural communities.
The highest point of the basin is the Tzontehuitz mountain, it is located at 2,900 meters above sea level (masl), while the lowest parts are around 2,117 masl
